Last year while brainstorming on how to get involved in the community, the Finlandia PTA club decided to serve our community through its underprivileged youth.  Now in its second year, Soup for Sneakers is planned to be an annual event.  This is a great way to help support our local community and also support the national “Shoes 4 Kids” organization.  Everyone is asked to bring a new pair of tennis shoes for children ages newborn to thirteen.  The shoes are collected and given to underprivileged families in need.

If you like chili and assorted soups, then you won’t want to miss this!  Tickets are available for presale now ($6 per person, $5 per student, & children 6 or under are FREE).  There will also be a raffle and silent auction which will include Christmas stocking, knitted items, gift cards, and much more.  If you have a Saturday free, clear your calendars for October 26th and come down to the Finnish American Heritage Center between 11:00AM and 1:30PM to drop off some sneakers and support a good cause.  Hope to see you there!

This is a great article, as well as a great idea. I have been involved in community work with underprivileged kids for the majority of my life and feel it is our good deed to give back to the community for less fortunate children. Great article and great way to get involved with the community!
